请教 New York city hotel

I am going to stay in New York city a few days in Christmas season. But I am not familar with the area. I will drive my family. Hopefully the hotel has free parking then we can take the taxi or subway in the city.

The question is what location is fine? In the city or in New Jersy? Close to any subway station?

Price? Thanks for help.
