2.I stopped at Master and it is preferred you ask your friends who are in US, in the same field3.
3. All the program in US are supported by funding. Everyone needs looking for funding. I think there is still need to hire some one to do the calculation, though you don't need experiments in the lab. Research covers every field, including engineering, science and art science.
4. Funding is the same vital as research ability
