FDA revealed in 1999 that some infant who received multiple vaccine shots containing thimerosal could be exposed to a cumulative dose that far exceeds federal health guidelines.

Mady Hornig of Columbia University in 2004 injected thimerosal at levels similar to that in typical vaccinations into a strain of mice bred to have a compromised immune system, like the weakened immune systems found in children with autism and other brain-body disorders. The mice reacted with autism-like symptoms: they behaved oddly and had brain abnormalities and delayed growth, while 2 other normal strains without immune problems, showed no such autism-like effects.
