Help, need treatment/prevention info

My infant niece(almost a year old) is showing signs of Ichthyosis(fish scale disease). Seems there is no cure right now. Does anyone know anything could be done to prevent it from progressing?

It's most likely congenital b/c my brother(baby's dad) has it. For him, it was mild early on, flaky skin only shows in winter time.But it all of sudden got worse when he came to US at age of 25, he believes it might have to do with the fact that he started to apply lotions daily. Now there are marks of the scales on his arms and legs. We are fearing for the baby, skin on her arms, legs, shoulders and back are getting dry while the weather is getter colder in Shanghai. Anything we should do or not to do to help with her condition? Any herbal remedy? Any food to avoid? We'd so much appreciate any information you could provide us.
