It does not matter if you have

the filing receipt. Usually CIS issues the filing receipt right after they receive the petition/application. It usually takes no more than 2 weeks to receive the receipt. As long as you can prove that you file the extension before its expiration, you are covered, i.e. you keep the legal status. No matter how long it will take to grant the petition.
