Questions about H1-B transfer!

I'd appreciate it if anyone could help my questons. I am planning to change my job but I am concerned about my working visa status. I have no idea about the visa transfer. If the new employer would like to sponsor it, how long I have to wait to start the new job after they submit the documents to INS? Is there anything that they should be careful such as starting date, etc.
Your advice would be greatly appreciated.
