H4 to H1b, possible?

I'd like to ask experienced people for my case: I am currently working with H1b. For some reason I may need to change to H4. My question is, is it possible to apply for H1b if later I find a position that supports my application? Or H4 is not allowed to apply for H1b? Thank you for your help!
