The chance of your back-ground checking is not as high as you were told. I knew some rencently examples in europe .

A physical chemistry, got visa in 2 days, Paris
B Biochemistry, got visa in 70 days , berlin ( background check)
C Organice chemistry got visa in one week.Paris

both are chinese,first H-1b
