H1-b laid off, is I-140/I-485

Two questions:
1. H1-b got laid off about 2 months ago, are I-140/I-485 from the same company still valid?
2. Get a new job now, need to file H1-b petition. If mentioning pending adjustment of status (I-485 pending) as legal status, will INS pull I-140/I-485 files and start to process them and reject them all together? Or H1-b and I-140/I-485 are two different issues?
