I think AP does not invalidate H1b. I used AP to return to USA, and continue to work for my H1b sponsor for 8 months. My passport was stamped with AOS. I just changed to a new job, and my H1b got successfully transferred to the new insitition. I got my new I-94. My wife H4 also got transfered, and she also used AP to return.

From our cases, I think AP will not invalidate H1b and H4. Hope this info can help. Good luck.
