hi, I have the same problem and very appreciate for the answers.
I saw someone post message on other forum, and he said his H1b got approved just by providing employment letter. My lawyer's answer is to provide what USCIS requested and you will be much safer. (ask your boss to provide a document to specify info. about your gross salary, withhold amount, that's the substitute of regular/official pay stubs, also include an employment letter. This is just my solution that i can figure out, can not gurrante it will be ok. )
