H1b Dependents come to USA?

Anybody could tell me what I should do if my family want to visit me? I hold H1B visa working in university, I asked the officer in Human Resource Office, he said my family could directly apply visa only holding my I-797 form, our marriage certificate, and birth certificate of my son, sounds very simple, is this correct? Could anybody have experinces about this tell me the details? Thanks!
