you can have your company to postpone the last paycheck until you find job. (I did this before. It took 2 months to find job for me). However, you have to watch your company situation closely because it might close suddenly and you don't know.

I would suggest your wife always having F1 or H1, so you can always have a backup. This is a thing you should plan in advance.
