It seems you have to wait. I am just curious that why you did not file h1 extension within U.S., but used consulate processing to get an H1 visa in Canada. Also, did you get the J1 waiver yet? If no, you may have a problem at this time. Without J1 waiver, you actually are not qualified to change your status from J1 to H1 though you got H1 status before.
