It is important that you have valid EAD(s) all these time. The H1B renewal was never improved, so the 240 days cannot be presumed. Only when that pending H1 was eventually approved, USCIS will retroactively validate the status and 240 days work authorization during the pending period. Your previous employer withdrew the pending H1B (or asked to revoke the approved H1B), so USCIS will withdrew (if pending) or revoke (if approved) you H1B soon.
