pjiang, please help! H1-B seventh year was denied

My friend's H1-B application was denied. She is working in academic institute. This is for her seventh year of H1-B. Her I-485 is pending. What should she do? If she applies EAD card now, what about the gap between her last H1-B expired date and EAD card starting date?
