As I mentioned in an earlier post, conservative lawyers recommend against using EAD for any jobs if an H1b is deemed to reserve at the same time. As this is a gray area, other lawyers interprete the 2005 CIS cronin memo on a different way.

But your friend goes too far. She could not receive payment without a valid EAD. In future, she could either use EAD to cover this parttime job and keep H1b sponsored job active; or apply an H1B for this parttime job, the latter certainly involves paperwork.
