恳请小白兔一个h1b transfer starting date 问题

I need to know whether my h1 can start before the starting date on the official job offer letter from a university. And I also need to decide the actual date to resign from my current company. Since the start date on the official letter is 8/15/07, I need to know whether I can start on 8/1/07, so I can resign on 7/31/07. I need to attend orientation session during the weeks from 8/1/07 to 8/15/07. Can Xiaobaitu help me on answering this question?
