H1B loosing job

I'm loosing job. I know I should try to find a new job as soon as I can, but I still have some questions. Please give me any suggestion if you have any experience or story close to mine. Thank you so much in advance.
1. I'm informed right now, but I have two months left for a new job searching. As a H-1 visa holder, what compensation can I get from my current employer?
2. I remember somebody once said I may be able to ask my current employer to hold my H-1 and not to inform INS. Is it possible? And how to ask my current employer extend my paycheck? how to explain it to them this is legal?
3. I co-filed I-140 and I-485, but both of them are pending. What can I do to make my application no hurt?
4. I got my EAD card last year. How and what time should I use it?
5. My wife is a F-1 student. When should I fill the form to switch my visa to F-2 if I cannot find a job?
