H1B Transfer question, urgent

My last paycheck is issued at July 21, but the paycheck states that the payment is for July 22 to July 31. (1) My question is what day is my H1B expire date?

(2) I am preparing H1B transfer and some lawyer said I can start work as soon as my H1B transfer is received by USCIS (not approval), is that correct?
