any payroll gap between H1B transfer?

I'll be off the payroll of the current employer on 8/1. My new boss is doing H1B transfer for me right now. My question is: would I still be in legal status if I'm added to the payroll at the new place later than 8/1, say 8/30 (want to take a vacation)?
