AP or H1B?

Hi everyone,
I'm a H1B holder with 485 pending, and planning to go back China this summer.
I was told I had to use AP, otherwise our 485 would be affected. Is this correct?
I find some friends here are trying to apply H1B visa. Will you guys use H1B visa only, or both H1 visa and AP?
