Take a look at the I-797 approval notice you have now. In the bottom part, there is no H1 I-94, so you are not in H1 now. To start your H1 (and its work authorization) you have to 1. file this petition to get H1 I-94 in mail without leaving US , or 2. Leave US and get H1 visa stamp in China/Canada,.. and then get H1 I-94 at the port of entry.
