my H1B will be expired, and ask the info of 180 days and gap bet

my H1B will be expired the end of this month, and I was told the 180 days after the final day to stay in the states. I am still trying to find the new employer to start the new H1B, one thing worrisome is the gap in between, but anyone has the same experience and can give more info of the 180 day and gap period? Is there certain limitation? Thank you very much for the help.
