请教 H1-B renewal

It is time for me to renew my H1-B. I am currently doing a postdoc. Filed NIW 140 (approved) and 485(pending). Have a few questions to ask the folks here:

1) the international students and scholars office of my school asks for a copy of the 485 receipt. My 485 petition has nothing to do with school. Why do they need to have it to renew H1-B? Will there be any problem if I attach the 485 receipt to the H1-B renewal?

2) I think I can use my approved EAD to work as postdoc. Is there any advantage to file H1-B extension?
