H1-B DIY help needed, thanks

Anyone can share with me the experience in appying H1-B by self? My company (institute) agrees to support me with the H1 visa. But I need to pay a lawyer by myself. So I want to do it by myself. My basic information is :

F1 in OPT stage.
Hired by a not-for-profit research institute. (How to prove this, though?)
