Strange, GLD beats CEF's performance in a large number

Does CEF give any dividend? Or it is just the fund expenses made the difference?

I.E.: 

6Month performance: GLD -7.5%; CEF -12.5%

one year performance :  GLD -8%; CEF -14%

Two year performance: GLD +9%; CEF -11%
