EB1 and NIW?

My NIW and 485 are pending. I'm using EAD now. Can I apply for EB1 to make sure I still have a pending case and stay here if my NIW is refused? How's the chance of EB1 under this situation? Does INS evaluate them separately? Thank you very much.
