Even for B visa, the time you can stay in USA depends on the time on I94.
For example, you get visa on 2004 Jan 1 with 6 month valid peroid. You can enter into USA on Jun 30. Then the officer can give you up to 6 month duration in your I94. In this case, you can stay in USA even the visa has expired.
