A question on I765 -- EAD renewal

My lawyer let me choose to renew EADs between by myself or by them with $500(2x250) legal fee + courier's fee.

I plan to file by myself. But I am not sure one item on I765 form. That is
15. Current Immigration Status (Visitor, Student, etc.)

Should I just write "EAD" or "Adjustmet Of Status (I-485 Pending)" ? I am using EAD (which means my H1B is not valid).

By the way, why does the lawyer charge me this time for filing EAD renewal but last time they did it for us for free ?
