Last September I applied EAD for my daughter, and got the same one year valid EAD. Then I asked the USCIS. and got the answer that I can sent the back the card and apply again for the two years. also he mentioned to me the time frame is set on your priority date of I-485. as ours is Nov 2005 is close to cutoff date, they think one year is good(that is the explanation from them). before in this forum i know somebody got back two year's EAD after argument with CIS.
