Depends on how soon your EAD will expire.

Last year I also sent out my EAD late; but it was not too bad, it was 2and a half months to expiration. So I took a vacation and then come to local office. It will issue you a new one if case is still pending after 3 months.

If you have AP then is not a big problem. You can also take no pay leave go back to China for a month.

If you have no where to go. Stay Low and hopefully no one will not notice this and let it slide.
