what does EAD mean?

i see people talking about NSC,TSC, Why is mine MSC?
people here talk about using EAD to work. after i got the job offer, i called immigration office, i was told that i can not apply any visa including TN (I am a canadian citizen). i have to wait for work permit in order to work. could anyone explain please. i am kind of lost here
