Can I file EAD application without I-485 receipt

Hi! All:
I didn't realize EAD card necessity when I filed my I-485 with AP on July,2nd. so now whether I still can file EAD application without I-485 receipt?
Thanks for your answer since 8/17 cutoff date is approaching now.
