pjiang, XBT, how to cancel July filed 485, ap and EAD

Have filed 2 485 based on me and my wife. Both no receipt no check cashed, how to cancel one? SOme Lawyer said I can not cancel check and it will cause trouble, is that true? Any suggestion?
