FAQ 24. 我现在是H-1B身份，如果我用了EAD 或Advance Parolee， 但不幸我的I-485 申请被拒绝了，我还可以在美国合法停留吗？
不可以，你已经失去了合法身份。当你使用了 EAD 或 Advance Parole, 你就失去了H-1B身份。如果你的I-485被拒绝了，你就失去了合法身份而需要离开美国。但是，如果
你使用的是回美证，你还有机会在美国将身份转换回H-1B。

I think the implication is that once you use EAD you can't transfer back to H4, though it doesn't say if you can transfer back to H4 if your 485 still pending.
