need urgent advice on my EAD

I am F-1 with I-485 pending. I went back to China with AP this April. My status is AOS now, no longer F-1. I alraedy showed my EAD to HR for working as a teaching assistant. My current EAD will expire on July 6. I submitted materials to renew my EAD in May. There were several online LUD’s. The latest LUD was May 31. After that, I heard nothing. I concern I can not get my new EAD card before July 6. The question is: If I can not get the new card before my old one expires, what will the sequence be? Can I still be research assistant as a full time student? Is my stay legal? Thanks a lot for any input.
