If you use EAD for employment, you lose H1.And you have to leave the country and come back on H1-B to regain your H-1B status. You may be able to do a H-1B transfer with a brief gap between jobs. The safe gap is a couple of weeks or less. Because you have a pending 485, you may be able to do a successful H-1B transfer even the gap is as large as two months. In case the gap is greater than that, you have thre options, 1)work a leave without pay with your current company to reduce the gap; 2)to leave the coutry and come back with a H-1B visa 3) just work on EAD.
