Does application for EAD invalidate H4?

I have learned a lot from this resouceful forum and felt thankful for all the friends here. Now I would like you to help me with the following questions.

1. I have filed my NIW application with VSC on Sept.22,2005 and got the receipt notice on Sept.28. No updates so far. Is there anyone who is in the similar situation as mine?

2. Will an application for EAD invalidate the H4 visa status, even without using it?
