you are already on H1 status, using EAD will invalid it and you have to apply H1 again to reinstate the H1 status. However for your case, since your H1 hasn't been approved, I think you can use the 485 EAD to fill the gap and then ask your employer to change your work base to approved H1 status.

The worst scenario is that you may have to apply H1 again, which I don't think is likely. But no matter how bad the situation is, you shouldn't need to leave this country.
