Your pending I485 gives you a legal status called AOS (adjustment of status). With that AOS alone, it is legal to stay inside the States. It doesn't matter if you are employed or not.

If you are not the principal GC petitioner, it is safer. If you are, then you'd better find a job as soon as possible, to show that you are still in the same field as the one you were in when filing your GC petition.
