Major Japanese automakers have experienced a severe, multi-year profit slump. Aggregate net profits for Japan’s seven major automakers fell by nearly half compared to their historical peaks, with several manufacturers posting multi-billion dollar losses due to U.S. tariffs, fierce Chinese EV competition, and shifting macroeconomic conditions.
