Messaging from Israel is that a big escalation is coming

A lot of things are happening at the same time.

Netanyahu is saying that Israel has hit Iran’s steel industry and petrochemical plants, because this will not allow Iran to produce weapons. That’s the Israeli claim.

In the meantime, the Israeli army has extended the state of emergency, so schools will continue to be online, and there will be no gatherings of large numbers. Life will not turn to normal for the time being.

While all of that is happening, the Israeli military is leaking to the Israeli media that a briefing is already under way on the upcoming escalation, because it seems that diplomatic efforts have failed, and they’re just gearing up for the go-ahead from President Trump that Iran’s power grid and energy resources will be hit.

The messaging right now in Israel is that a big escalation is coming, and that that would be the final act in the war.

That omits the other side of the equation: The fact that Israelis have been reeling from Iranian attacks and the fact that many critics are now saying this war lacks any political strategy or vision for an endgame.
