From Kramatorsk to Western Ukraine, Failures at the Front Do Not Stop Russian Terror from Striking Again

Kramatorsk – The residents’ worst fear has returned. Russian bombs are destroying Kramatorsk’s buildings, including churches and hospitals. The streets are deserted, and the remaining civilians are barricaded inside their homes, only venturing out occasionally. They nervously look between the ground and the sky, fearful that the terror could strike at any moment, whether from loitering munitions or leaf mines scattered everywhere by Russian drone operators: in the streets, abandoned gas stations, and parks.
As shown in the following video on “La Ragione’s” YouTube channel, all the shop windows and building windows have now been covered with plywood sheets, creating a uniform cityscape.
Similar to nearby Sloviansk, shuttles are organized daily to evacuate children, but Russian drone operators point straight to them, too. As a result, every time we drive around the city, we see new wrecks of all kinds of vehicles.
The first phase of the Russian spring offensive has broken through the Ukrainian fortress belt in Donbas, and the occupiers are still contained at the gates of Lyman, but the thunder of bombs indicates an imminent threat to Kramatorsk.
The explosions of Russian glide bombs and artillery continue to follow one another, nearly every less than a minute. The hissing and booming make it hard to hear the buzzing of the FPV drones, which stalk their human targets, shooting them while they’re driving, walking, and even inside the ukrettiya, the reinforced concrete shelters built by the Ukrainian civil engineering corps.
For this reason, even ambulances are now often protected by external metal screens or escorted by specially protected military vehicles that clear the way by scanning radio frequencies with REP systems. Every access route to the city is protected by anti-drone nets, but Russian remote attackers persist, opening gaps to deploy more FPV kamikazes, like the one that chased the car carrying our volunteers just moments before we finished this report.
Just outside those corridors, Ukrainian soldiers from the “Rock” regiment cleared Minkivka, a major settlement on the Bakhmut-Sloviansk road, preventing another potential enemy advance and stabilizing the situation in the area.
The harsh defeats on the ground haven’t stopped the Russian regime from spreading terror to other cities, as it has been heavily bombing Ukraine in recent hours, both day and night.
A barrage of artillery fire in the center of Kherson killed a man in his home. A high-explosive drone strike on 26 settlements in Sumy left many injured, including at least two children. In Dnipropetrovsk, Nikopol’, Marhanets, Chornohorivka, Synelnykove, Shakhtarsk, and Vasylivka, drones and artillery hit at least 20 times, while in Dnipro, the Russians nearly destroyed a 14-story building and damaged two kindergartens, injuring at least twenty civilians, including an 18-year-old. In Kharkiv, a Russian drone struck an electric train bound for Slatine, instantly killing a 61-year-old passenger. A station in Zaporizhia went up in smoke after an attack with incendiary drones.
More generally, yesterday’s Russian attack overwhelmed 11 regions of Ukraine. For this reason, President Zelensky appealed to his partners, urging them to honor their commitments to support the country’s air defenses.
A necessary appeal, since – as TopLeadEU analysts observe – Ukraine has so far received only 64% of what was promised by its allies: 390.7 billion compared to the 615.5 billion that had been advertised since the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion.
