Pentagon policy chief argues Iran missile buildup led to military operation

The Pentagon’s policy chief argued to lawmakers on Tuesday that the “very rapid buildup” of Iran’s missile and drone capabilities led to the US military’s operation against Iran.

Under Secretary for Policy Elbridge Colby also said Secretary of State Marco Rubio “told the truth” in remarks Monday about Israel’s role in triggering the start of the campaign.

Rubio told reporters that Iran posed an “imminent threat” because it was expected to retaliate to planned Israeli military action, which prompted the US military to strike first.
