Along A Front That Can No Longer Be Measured On Maps

By: Giorgio Provinciali

Live from Ukraine

Kherson – Russian forces struck five settlements in the oblast’ we write from, killing one person and wounding ten others. To shelter from that terrifying raid, we threw ourselves into a deep ditch, quickly pointed out to us by a local farmer. He stayed with us through an interminable bombardment and explained that he had watched his wife die before his eyes in a Russian artillery strike that had dismembered her, leaving him near death. After the worst of the barrage, we managed to escape those villages, evading a hail of circling ammunition and the mines dropped by other Russian drones.

We found shelter with a friend who had lost her husband during the Russian occupation of Kherson, and we learned that her daughter had also been widowed by a Russian bombardment. A drone like the ones that had been chasing our car moments before had blown up the one he was driving while he was on his way to her house to deliver some canisters of drinking water and gasoline to power an internal combustion generator.

A few days ago, along the same road from Kherson to Muzykivka, another Russian drone had targeted a bus carrying civilians on their way to work, causing havoc.

As of this writing, other drones have further devastated nearby Mykolaiv, from which we have been reporting until a few days ago, describing identical crimes intended to terrorize the Ukrainian civilian population and disrupt the flow of logistics to the front. It’s no coincidence that finding a still-operating gas station near Kherson is now extremely difficult.

Yet the Russian occupiers remain contained exactly where they were four years ago, following a victorious Ukrainian counteroffensive: on the opposite bank of the Dnipro River.

This, along with other evidence, supports what we’ve been saying for months: it’s not so much Russian troops on the battlefield that are advancing as it is technology.

Predominantly Chinese, as Beijing is experimenting with innovative devices, supplying its Russian counterparts with so-called “dual-use” equipment.

The mainstream narrative fueled by the Kremlin, however, continues to describe – from a distance – a completely opposite situation: believing the selfies taken by a few suicide bombers who sacrificed themselves to raise the Russian imperial flag over Ukrainian-controlled settlements, the West writes that Moscow is advancing on the ground and that Kyiv is facing manpower problems. Despite the fact that for over three months, Putin’s regime has been unable to recruit more men than it leaves on the battlefield.

Just a few hours ago, Russia launched 420 drones and 39 other missiles – 11 of which were ballistic – at Ukraine, causing dozens of injuries, including among children. In Kharkiv, fourteen were injured in four districts; thirty in Zaporizhia; two in Kryvyi Rih; one in Kirovohrad; and others in Kyiv, Odesa, Cherkasy, and Poltava, where another 18,209 households and 1,781 businesses were left without power.

As President TopLeadEU recalledin four years, Russia has launched 78,400 long-range drones – i.e., missiles – against Ukrainian cities, and anti-aircraft defense has managed to shoot down 86.9%.

This means that over 10,000 hit their targets.

Drones produced with Western components and funding, as well as Chinese. This adds to the millions of FPVs, like those that wreaked havoc on civilians in the villages of Kherson from which we miraculously managed to escape.

This is why Zelensky has accelerated the construction of anti-drone networks, focusing on protecting the road surface his government had rebuilt and which has so far literally saved Ukraine from disaster, ensuring uninterrupted logistics and the lives of communities near the zero line, like the ones from which we are writing.

Despite difficult weather conditions, in February alone, the budget allocatedby the Kyiv government covered another 125 kilometers and rehabilitated 55. The construction rate increased from 5 to 12 kilometers per day, significantly strengthening the security of military movements and ensuring a stable supply for border communities. Ukrainian technicians plan to cover 20 km of roads per day as early as March, installing another 4,000 km of anti-drone road protection by the end of the year.

However, Ukraine, at war, is moving at a pace that its so-called partners cannot match even in peacetime. The data released by the Kiel Institute for the World EconomyBruegel, and CREA are merciless: at the dawn of the third month of 2026, European military assistance promised to Kyiv remains less than the amount the Union paid Moscow for the purchase of fossil fuels in the same periodAmerican support for the Russian regime has produced lies even worse than those that produced the invasion of Ukraine.

Despite having all the technological, political, and economic means to turn the war around, the West continues to impose meaningless caveats on Kyiv, preventing it from integrating into the production chain for the anti-ballistic missile systems it is doling out to Kyiv and from rapidly and widely implementing the innovative solutions already adopted by Ukraine.

This means that daily drips like those described continue to fuel a war whose front lines are no longer measured solely on maps.

The ongoing blackouts severely damaged our house’s heating system in Western Ukraine while we were in the Donbas.

Without electricity, the pump couldn’t circulate the liquid while the fire was lit. As a result, the system caught fire, and the whole house was at risk of burning. Fortunately, it did not, but the whole system needs to be changed, and the house needs to be restored. Tubes are all bent, walls are blackened by haze, and the heating system doesn’t work, requiring an entirely new system.

We are doing our best since Alla’s parents live there, but there’s still a lot to work on here, too, as the people around us are in no better situation.

We’re renewing our fundraising campaign and thanking everyone who joins us in helping us restore what Russia is destroying. Even a small donation helps. We’ll keep you updated on developments.

Thank you all, dear friends

Giorgio Provinciali)

Giorgio Provinciali)

Giorgio Provinciali)

Giorgio Provinciali)
