U.S. military shoots down Iranian drone that ‘aggressively approached’ aircraft carrier

A U.S. fighter jet on Tuesday shot down an Iranian drone that “aggressively approached” the USS Abraham Lincoln with “unclear intent,” according to U.S. Central Command.
The Abraham Lincoln was transiting the Arabian Sea about 500 miles from Iran’s southern coast when the drone unncessarily maneuvered toward the aircraft carrier, Central Command spokesman Capt. Tim Hawkins told CNBC in a statement.
A F-35C warplane from the Abraham Lincoln shot down the drone “in self defense to protect the aircraft carrier and personnel on board,” Hawkins said. No U.S. personnel were harmed and no U.S. equipment was damaged in the incident, he said.
