The Nordic Non-EU Countries (Norway and Iceland)
Norway and Iceland are part of EFTA, not the EU. They have their own distinct arrangements with the US:
-
Trade and Investment Framework Agreements (TIFA): These countries use TIFAs as the primary forum for resolving trade disputes and improving market access, though they do not eliminate all tariffs.
-
Mutual Recognition Agreements (MRA): These allow for "tested once" protocols for products like telecommunications and marine equipment, making it easier for Nordic tech to enter the US market.
-
Visa Treaties: Both countries maintain "Treaty Trader" status (E-1 visas), allowing for easier business travel and residency for individuals engaged in substantial trade between their home country and the US.
