A Russian Drone Every Three Seconds While In Paris They Talk About ‘Peace’

Novomykolaivka – In Paris, they talk about peace without facing those who want war. Moscow has just deployed the Oreshnik intercontinental ‘hypersonic’ ballistic missiles in Belarus, equipping them with nuclear warheads. In those same territories – which Vladimir Putin considers a perfect launch platform for the war in Ukraine and future attacks on the rest of Europe – the Russian Federation is developing its military infrastructure, relying on the immunity of Belarusian industries and refineries. From the «Vostochny» cosmodrome, Russian aerospace forces have put three Iranian satellites («Paya», «Kowsar» and «Zafar-2") into orbit at an altitude of about 500 km. From North Korea, millions of artillery shells continue to flowtoward the Russian front – in quantities far surpassing those supplied to Ukraine by any Western partner – along with thousands of men whom the leader of Pyongyang, Kim Jong Un, has publicly praised and thanked in his New Year’s message, defining them as «the greatest strength, pride and solid support of the country». Since much of the press is silent about it, it must be remembered that those soldiers – officially ‘engineers’ – are also deployed in the Ukrainian Donbas alongside the Russian reservists: among the infantry troops that Moscow is amassing in Chasiv Yar under the cover of snow and the 24th Ukrainian Brigade ‘King Danilo’ is neutralizing; among the expendables that are thrown in the conquest of Kostiantynivka (which the 19th Army Corps of the Ukrainian Armed Forces defends); and among those launched in the assault on Huliajpole.
Just on this last front are the Ukrainian defense forces now repelling about thirty Russian attacks every twenty-four hours, receiving completely insufficient Western support.
The Paris forum is so far from the reality of the battlefield that it arouses open anger among soldiers and officials of the Ukrainian civil and military administrations. Not only because most of the 20 points put in black and white in the so-called ‘peace plan’ are useless and harmful, but also because it takes precious time away from the discussion of what Ukraine really needs: weapons.
From the front lines, Alla Perdei and I have been saying for months that the reality is the opposite of what the mainstream, bent toward Russian propaganda, conveys: Moscow is facing the most serious manpower problems, while Ukraine lacks weapons, ammunition, and means in a chronic way. However, the Kremlin masks its flaws with reservists and with those «brave that Pyongyang and Moscow are anxiously awaiting», as Kim Jong Un called North Korean slaughter meat. Kyiv, on the other hand, is facing overwhelming Russian firepower, made possible by Chinese, North Korean, Belarusian, and Iranian support.
While conciliatory scenarios and security guarantees for non-existent truces were hypothesized in Paris, yesterday Moscow tried to break through the front 172 times. The images released by the 25th Ukrainian Brigade of the fighting in Pokrovsk show defenders subjected to the launch of 20 Russian FPV drones in something more than one minute, a russian drone every three seconds, while in Paris they talk about peace.
Western media have culpably omitted the more than 20 daily attacks that the Russian air force has been conducting for weeks against a Western city such as Maiaky, in an attempt to isolate a portion of Ukrainian Bessarabia larger than Corsica.
In just one week, the Russians have launched over 1,500 long-range, high-explosive drones, nearly 900 guided aerial bombs – each capable of demolishing a nine-story building – and 46 other ballistic and cruise missiles into Ukraine.
Mykolaiv, Odesa, Kherson, Chernihiv, Donetsk, Sumy, and Dnipro have been without electricity for a week, and in most cases without water and heating.
Undignified conditions in which, like soldiers at the front, the population rejects any diplomatic efforts.
While Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with the President of Cyprus yesterday to discuss the PURL project – shamefully used as a bargaining chip by the US,which dictates its timing, prices, and rules, slowing rather than accelerating supplies to Ukraine – Moscow bombed the center of Sloviansk with three cluster bombs, killing civilians.
In nearby Druzhkivka, a Russian FPV drone hit an ambulance, while another destroyed a civilian firefighting vehicle. The night before, a swarm of 50 Russian (i.e., Chinese) drones struck as many homes in Donbas. The Carpathian and Rivne regions are in darkness and without heating, with temperatures in some areas reaching -23°C.
The idea was to put Ukraine in the best position to negotiate peace by forcing an isolated Russia to do the same. The opposite has happened.
Exhausted, Ukrainian soldiers have stopped receiving the few weapons that arrived drop by drop, accompanied by meaningless caveats, while Moscow continues to bomb mercilessly, thanks to a constant flow of weapons, ammunition, and equipment produced domestically or purchased from its partners.
At a table where Moscow does not – and will not – sit a ‘plan’ is laid, consisting of 20 contradictory clauses and legal and operational inconsistencies that mask the structural risk of reactivating the conflict under the guise of an ambiguous and unenforceable peace.
Those who promoted it have meanwhile violated international law through a coup in Venezuela and, one way or another, aim to do the same elsewhere, including in Denmark, which sits at that same table among the so-called ‘partners’. However much we may (un)talk about it, peace has never been so distant.
