As of late 2025, the Azov Brigade, officially the 12th Special Forces Brigade of Ukraine's National Guard, remains an active and effective fighting force on the front lines against Russia. The unit is widely regarded as a symbol of Ukrainian resistance, particularly after its prominent role in the 2022 defense of Mariupol.
- Eastern Front: As of late 2025, Azov fighters are concentrated in the Donetsk region. They were reported to be active in the Toretsk sector, particularly near the town of Niu-York, in both offensive and defensive operations.
- Formation of 1st Azov Corps: In April 2025, the 1st Azov Corps was formed based on the brigade. The brigade's commander, Denys "Redis" Prokopenko, was promoted to lead the new corps.
- New commander: In April 2025, Lieutenant Colonel Bohdan "Puhach" Hryshenkov was appointed as the new commander of the brigade.
- Military medicine: In August 2025, an Azov team participated in a combat medical conference in Germany and received an award for saving a soldier's life with a drone-delivered blood transfusion.
